Album Cover Similiar Media Research

This is the album cover of “Plastic Beach” by the popular artist Gorillaz. This album art is a play on a nuclear blast. A house on an island has been edited on top of the mushroom cloud. This would be a successful selling point as it can be seen as an ‘impressive image.’ The information on the cover is minimal, only displaying the artist name and album title, thereby not clogging the album cover in useless information, giving the 3 most important items dominating presence. The colour scheme is rather orangy, giving the setting a sunset feel.

This is the album cover of Bioshock 2, the official soundtrack of the game. This will use the popularity of the game as a selling point. Due to it being a compilation of artists, it does not state on the cover the artists contained within as this would take up to much space, distracting the consumer from the cover art, which is famously attached to the game. The image shows a popular character from the game which would most likely boost the sales the most. The character can be seen in a dimly lit area with a black background making him stand out on the cover. The associated game title is located and centred and the top of the cover, helping it to stand out when on the shelf and draw in customers. The footer of the cover inhabits the line “THE OFFICAL SOUNDTRACK: MUSIC FROM AND INSPIRED BY THE GAME.” This informs the potential consumer that the product was made by the same company as the game and is not an imitation product. This text is in capitals to help it stand out on the page even though the text size is small so it doesnt take up much room.

This is the album cover of {Bi-on-ic} by Christina Aguilera. The cover art was simply achieved by taking the photo of Christina on a white background / green screen or editing out the background along with the left side of her face and replacing it with an animated collection of circuitry. A dripping effect has been used on the album artist's name, making it stand out on the page even though the text is small in comparision to the size of the cover and the album art, thus proving its effectiveness. Attempting to imitate this for an album cover would be a an excellent potential final piece.
